Job Description

Arctic Fire Safety Services is looking for wild land fire fighters for the 2023 Fire Season!

Candidates must have provincial wildfire approved training (Hinton Training Center or similar) and be "certified" or NFPA 1051 Wildfire certification. Chainsaw certification is also desired.

If you are with a volunteer fire service or have your NFPA 1001, we are able to provide an in field WUI training course.

Ideally candidates also have advanced first aid certification (EMR/ AFA 2/ OFA 3/ FMR/ WFR), but standard first aid is a minimum requirement.

There is a physical fitness criteria laid out by the province that all qualified applicants must pass.

Due to the hazards faced by the fire fighters, Arctic Fire Safety has zero tolerance for drug and alcoholuse for the safety of those you work with. If you are found intoxicated you will be dropped off at the nearest community and left to your own devices to get home.

Working conditions for wild land fire fighters are very different from oilfield and structural fire services, so please research the https://www.wildfirex.com/ website to become familiar with what can be expected. You should enjoy camping in a tent, and roughing it for days on end. If you have experience with back country camping, then you will be fine.

You must provide your own tent, sleeping bag, camping mattress, and 8" work boots. Also, you are limited to one hockey/ duffel bag which will also need to fit your PPE.

The demands for Wildland firefighting may mean that you are going to be deployed away from the home base for up to 24 days. If you are deployed, you must ensure that you have adequate supplies for remote camping (medications, toiletries, etc.)

Due to the demands for adequate response times, candidates who live within 1 hour of Red Deer will be given preference in dispatches.

Relocation is not being offered.
