Position Summary:
Working as a key team member of the University’s Digital Communications team, the Web Strategist executes the University’s marketing and communications strategy as it pertains to the institutional website and intranet. This position contributes to an increased international awareness of the University through excellence in innovative and effective web presence.
The Web Strategist must be able to apply sound strategic communications principles to ensure the University’s goals are supported and achieved, and the institutional reputation is maintained and enhanced through the development, selection and presentation of web content, images and tools.
Responsibilities include:
  • Provide ongoing strategic communications expertise and management to campus stakeholders;
  • Consult with campus Site Owners (ie: deans, directors, AVPs) and Content Contributors to establish client /stakeholder relationships in academic and administrative units, advancing the strategic use and value of the institutional website;
  • Consult and maintain regular contact with, and provide strategic communications expertise to campus Site Owners/Content Contributors, in order to understand their needs and identify gaps, opportunities and solutions for institutional web development, for the purpose of continuously improving and developing the institutional website as a primary marketing/communications tool;
  • Ensure that the design integrity of the website’s navigational structure is preserved and supports the University’s brand and visual identity requirements;
  • Develop and document web communication resources for Site Owners and Content Contributors which support, interpret and reinforce the strategic direction of the University’s website including documents such as: style guides, web image basics, writing for the web basics, navigation tips, statistical report templates, etc.;
  • Implement institutional and communications strategy for the university website and intranet, ensuring content on central web pages supports the strategic direction of the University of Regina;
  • Manage content decisions, placement and messaging for central web properties;
  • Serve as the project manager for new content projects and serve as primary communication liaison with web-based service vendors or consultants; and,
  • Stay current with web communication technologies through both formal and informal training.
Position Requirements
Position Requirements:
  • An undergraduate degree in Business (Marketing), Communications, Computer Science, or other related field combined with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in digital communications;
  • Demonstrated experience providing strategic communications and marketing expertise;
  • Working knowledge of web development processes;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of best practices for SEO and web content writing;
  • Exceptional written and visual communication skills, including web and email;
  • Demonstrated strong verbal communication skills essential for in-person meetings, virtual meetings, formal and informal presentations;
  • Proven ability to comprehend and retain information from a diverse audience with the ability to translate complex concepts into common language;
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to develop collaborative relationships;
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and foster a positive work environment;
  • Proven ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and deadlines;
  • Working knowledge of project management principles;
  • Knowledge of University of Regina policies and procedures;
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; and,
  • Experience working in a university environment is considered an asset.
Physical Demands Pay Grade APT 7 Salary Range $78,151 - $105,471 Annually Status Term Work Hours
8:15 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday.
Occasional work outside of the regular hours may be required.
