Personal Support Worker

Purpose:

To provide surgical nursing care to general surgery, plastics, ENT, gynecology, vascular, thoracic and urology patients.

Education and Training:

• A graduate from an approved School of Nursing (Registered Practical Nursing Program) with a current certificate of competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support BCLS (if not current must be obtained within 3 months
• Current certification in Peripheral Intravenous Initiation and Maintenance.
• Must have relevant experience working within full scope of practice, including medication administration, within the last two (2) years.
• Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
• Completion of RPN standardization (all modules) required.

Experience:

• Current practical experience with intravenous therapy, IV medication administration, nutritional support, tracheostomy care and blood administration.
• Recent relevant experience required (within past 5 years) caring for surgical patients in the pre and post-op phase.

Knowledge/Skills

Ability:

• Computer skills including Microsoft Office software, Meditech Client Service OE, and GRASP software.

Personal Suitability:

• Demonstrated positive work record and good attendance record.
