The Elizabeth Fry Society of Greater Vancouver (EFry) is a charitable organization that supports women, girls, and children at risk, involved in or affected by the justice system. Our programs work to break the cycle of poverty, addiction, mental illness, homelessness, and crime.

We are recruiting for a Part time, Support Worker for Transition to New Beginnings. Located in Burnaby, Transition to New Beginnings, supports pregnant and newly parenting women and their babies in addressing their substance use. Staff work with clients on case planning, substance use goals, parenting, health needs, planning for long term stability and community-based support. The program is staffed 63 hours a week.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Model positive, healthy behaviours and build rapport with clients, supporting them as they practice setting boundaries, effective communication skills, conflict resolution, and contribute a safe, respectful environment.
  • Monitor the program and clients to ensure a welcoming, safe, supportive environment.
  • Document and maintain accurate records of client, program, and case planning activities.
  • Perform housekeeping duties ensuring quality control for all equipment and maximum cleaning effectiveness.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma in a related human/or social services field and a minimum one (1) year recent experience in a bed-based environment, preferably with substance use services, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Understanding of substance use and mental health.
  • Understanding of cultural safety and trauma-informed practice.
  • Experience working in a licensed facility is an asset.
  • Proficient in MS word, excel, outlook and data entry.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.

MANDATORY JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Food Safe Level 1.
  • Standard First Aid with CPR-C.
  • Evidence of COVID-19 vaccination status.
  • Evidence of a Tuberculosis Test and compliance with the TB Control Program.
  • Doctor’s Note of fitness required.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Review (Vulnerable Sector Search).
