Kickbox is an online software-as-a-service platform that provides software for marketers and developers. Our primary business is email verification - running a custom SMTP network and database stack to help our customers improve their marketing email deliverability and filter out fake, disposable, or bot accounts from their signups. The Kickbox API is busy 24/7 serving millions of daily responses. The application interface is a critical part of many marketing workflows. Kickbox tools support customers of all sizes, to include large enterprise level customers.

Kickbox is looking for a Site Reliability Engineer with experience in operations, platform automation, dev-ops, and infrastructure engineering. This role will work closely with the engineering team to harden resources, operationalize new infrastructure, automate deployments, architect backend systems, and more. We’re looking for someone who can take ownership of site reliability and disaster recovery tasks while also helping the rest of the team to build and maintain scalable services. This role is fairly unique > Kickbox is a small business that operates under the Moz Group banner, but we have a small-company vibe which also extends to this role. You will have full creative freedom to update and implement our system automation & CI systems, and will get to operate autonomously. This is a remote position, but it will require travel once or twice a year for a period of up to a week to Dallas and Austin where current data centers are located.

What You Will Do:

• Automate our infrastructure with Ansible, Terraform, or similar
• Lead the refresh and implementation of disaster recovery and site reliability policies
• Deploy services, VMs, containers, and application packages
• Manage our on-site and cloud infrastructure spending
• Advise the engineering team on deployment and architecture best practices
• Implementing security best practices at various levels - OS, cloud, application, and internal services
• Create monitoring infrastructure to ensure we have health and performance metrics from the OS through to the front-end.
• Take ownership of, and modernize, our CI/CD pipeline to help Kickbox test and deploy features faster
• Participate in on-call rotation

Experience:

• 2+ years' experience as an SRE for a software as a service
• Scripting and coding skills for a Linux environment
• Experience managing and operating a fleet of Linux servers and container cloud services
• Experience with an enterprise-wide cloud platform (AWS preferred)
• 2+ years' experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, Chef, etc

Nice to Have:

• Experience with MySQL
• Experience with continuous integration pipelines
• Experience with SMTP (the protocol, IP reputation, etc)
• Experience with analytics pipelines - Kinesis, Kafka, S3, etc
• Proficiency in Spanish

• Ubuntu VMs in AWS and in a couple of racks in data centers in Austin and Dallas

• Nagios for system monitoring and alerting with some Cloudwatch
• OpenVPN
