Stelco has an immediate opening for Emergency Services Officers, at its Hamilton location. Safety is the Core Value of Stelco and the individual will make Safety their first priority in all work activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the protection of employees and employers property;
  • Readily available to respond to any and all emergencies throughout the plant as required;
  • Capable of performing advanced security and firefighting functions. Your role on the Plant Protection team will include:
  • Inspect and maintain Fire Protection equipment;
  • Controls access into and out of the plant including loss prevention, access control, scales functions and pass control functions;
  • Conduct investigations and prepares reports;
  • Performs routine inspections and security checks.
  • Provide Emergency Response including; Firefighting, Hazmat, Confined Space Rescue and medical.

Qualifications:

  • College Diploma Law & Security, Police Foundations or Pre-Service Firefighter NFPA 1001 discipline or a combination of education and experience working in a unionized, manufacturing/industrial environment is preferred;
  • Experience in Security: access control, investigations, surveillance, and loss prevention;
  • Experience in Fire prevention, suppression, inspections and repairs of sprinkler systems, fire alarms and fire extinguishers;
  • Strong communication skills, computer skills and a mechanical background would be considered an asset;
  • Extensive safety training;
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Following areas would be considered an asset; Volunteer Fire Fighter, Industrial Fire Fighter, Medical First Responder, Hazardous Material Technician, Rope Rescue Technician (Confined Space/High angle). Possess a Security and/or Private Investigators license (Ontario) and are in possession of a class D, F, Z license.

Working Environment/ Conditions

  • A mix of an office and heavy manufacturing environments;
  • The job is within a heavy industrial environment and you will be required to work within various areas of the facility;
  • Safety is our highest priority and safety procedures and guidelines must always be adhered to. This includes wearing PPE, such as a hard hat, protective ear and eye wear, respirator, flame retardant clothing and safety boots with metatarsal protection when entering the mills;
  • Ensure that all your fire/security requirements are fulfilled;
  • Hamilton Works facility operates 24 hours a day 365 days a year
  • May be required to work straight days or shift work (12-hour shifts, days and nights)
  • The position may require you to work overtime as needed
  • A valid driver’s license and vehicle is required to work at this facility
