Position Summary:
This position is an important part of the finance department’s relationship with all Field, Shop, and Office employees for the A&H Edmonton and Vancouver locations. Some of the responsibilities include the timely and accurate completion of weekly/bi-weekly/semi-monthly payrolls, support for hiring/re-hiring and terminations, and working with the finance team to meet provincial and federal requirements and deadlines. Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
Responsibility Area #1 - Documentation and Reporting
- Complete weekly, bi-weekly, and semi-monthly payrolls accurately and on time to meet deposit schedules.
- Complete and report employee ROEs on Service Canada’s website.
- Complete journal entries for payroll costing to the accounting system.
- Ensure current rates are maintained in the payroll system.
- Provide reports to safety and other departments as required.
Responsibility Area #2 – Administration and Payroll
- Review timesheets for errors or deletions and enter hours/wage information.
- Calculate deduction amounts and prepare direct deposit files and manual cheques for each payroll.
- Reconcile, produce, submit, and distribute T4s and T4 reports at end of the year prior to the federal deadline.
- Create payments for Local Union hall remittances weekly/monthly.
- Administer any garnishee notices that come in and calculate deductions accordingly.
- Administer new hire/rehire setup and employee terminations.
- Administer employee benefits enrollment and maintenance.
Responsibility Area #3 – Communication
- Assist with Employee Offer Letter reviews.
- Communication with CRA and Service Canada as required.
Responsibility Area #3 – Communication and Feedback
- Provide feedback on areas that could be improved upon to my supervisor.
- Share ideas to improve processes and be more efficient.
- Communicate and answer questions or concerns from staff regarding their pay or benefits.
- Provide Employment verification letters to employees at their request.
Responsibility Area #4 - Health and Safety
- Ensure that I have a clean and safe workspace. Ensure that there is are no safety hazards in the room or elsewhere in the office.

- Participate in continuous trainings, coaching, and discussions about the values as requested or needed.
- Participate in helping A&H facilitate its purpose.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Union payroll experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of Provincial Employment Standards (AB and BC).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong Excel experience (formulas, pivot tables, macros, etc)
- Past experience will reflect the ability to self-manage and build knowledge.
- Efficient time management skills.
- Commitment to providing exceptional customer service.
- Effectively able to manage stress and stressful situations.
- Proficient use of Microsoft office.

Education
- High School Diploma
- Previous Payroll Experience (5-7 years)
- Software Experience – Potentially ADP, Avanti, UKG
