The primary function of the District is to ensure the safe and efficient movement of goods, service and people in a given geographic area. The District administers the road and bridge maintenance agreements, snow avalanche programs, development approvals, portions of the rehabilitation program, commercial vehicle safety enforcement program, and provides support for the capital program.
The incumbent is required to make public presentations and deliver information or decisions that may not be well received; meet and deal with representatives of the three levels of government, First Nations, public and media representatives to discuss or explain programs, initiatives, or decisions; and successfully negotiate agreements on behalf of the ministry where the parties may disagree or conflict.
