Job Summary:
The Approaches to Community Wellbeing is a regional resource to 31 First Nations Communities. The
Approaches to Community Wellbeing provides expertise, support, services, and programming in public health to the region. The program also supports communities in the development, implementation, and monitoring of their own Approaches to Community Wellbeing. The Healthy Living section of the Model includes Preventing Infectious Diseases, which looks at preventing the spread of infections, and case and contact management of reportable diseases.
Under the direction of the Preventing Infectious Diseases Manager, the Preventing Infectious Diseases
Nurse will coordinate the clinical infectious diseases activities of the program. The Preventing Infectious
Diseases Nurse will work in conjunction with the Preventing Infectious Diseases Program team, and the
Public Health and Preventive Medicine Specialist and Community Health Teams.
The Preventing Infectious Diseases Nurse is directly accountable to the Preventing Infectious Diseases
Manager.
Qualifications:
Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Co-ordinates and monitors strategic clinical infectious disease control activities, case finding, case holding, contact tracing, surveillance, related treatment, screening and applicable vaccinations
2. Assists with outbreak management, as recommended by the Public Health and Preventative
Medicine Specialist
3. Provides clinical expertise to the Preventing Infectious Program and to community health care providers
4. Participates in the development, implementation, evaluation and quarterly reporting of the TB
Control Program work plan
5. Participates in the development and evaluation of education materials and provide support to the education process of the Preventing Infectious Disease Program
6. Provides orientation of the SLFNHA Preventing Infectious Disease Program to primary health care providers, and facilitates continued learning opportunities about infectious disease prevention and control
7. Monitors adherence of health care practitioners to Preventing Infectious Disease Program standards and follows up discrepancies to promote safe, effective care and education
8. Advocates for clients and communities to enhance health determinants
9. Actively participates on committees and other working groups as a representative for the
SLFNHA
10. Establishes and maintains a close working relationship with community health leadership and health staff to build capacity, promote awareness and self-determination in the prevention and management of infectious diseases in the communities
11. Supports the preparation of timely reports on infectious diseases epidemiology, activities of protection, prevention and control of infectious diseases, and program outcomes
12. In conjunction with Preventing Infectious Disease Program Manager, data clerks and the
Epidemiologist conducts quality control surveillance on data management and systems operations and clinical support to FNIHIS
13. Performs other duties for the SLFHNHA as directed
14. Will travel to communities extensively to conduct timely completion of case and contact management, outbreak management, community, advocacy and assist in Preventing Infectious
Diseases education
