The Financial Analyst monitors actual financial performance against budgeted and forecasted expectations and ensures the requisite cost models and controls are in place. This individual will make independent decisions, critically assess financial information, and perform business analytical functions. You will support senior leadership in making critical business decisions by summarizing their data analysis into insightful presentations, identifying and surfacing key issues in a timely manner, and assuring adequate business controls are in place and are operating effectively for the assigned business area(s).
This role will require the individual to conduct independent analysis and make recommendations on accounting treatments and process improvements in accordance with IFRS and internal policies.
Major Responsibilities:

Develop, enhance, and monitor financial models for business analysis and planning, including tracking financial actuals and forecasts for monthly and quarterly reviews with ENMAX Power business groups. Contribute and provide detailed analysis in the preparation of financial plans and budgets

Develop periodic and ad hoc reports, as well as action appropriate financial transactions (Accruals, Journal Entries, tracking POs/ WOs, etc.) to support the business areas

Analyze new and revised accounting standards and regulatory decisions and quantify their impact to financial results

Liaise with business Vice Presidents, Directors, and other business leaders to tell the ‘story behind the numbers’, and drive business decisions through data-driven insights

Act as an advisor and coach to a broad array of managers from the assigned business area(s). Leverage analytical rigor, tact, and interpersonal skills to challenge business hypotheses, and develop recommendations.

Provide financial advice and detailed analysis by interpreting policies and processes related to corporate cost allocations and fixed assets accounting; assess their implications to regulatory filings

Lead continuous improvement efforts to improve service to business partners and preparation of various regulatory filing expectations

Report on compliance of financial and regulatory processes and perform monthly accounting entries and reconciliations as necessary.

Liaise with the external auditors to facilitate efficient completion of engagements

Manage and provide guidance for financial accounting of regulatory revenue
Education Required:
Qualifications & Experience:
-
8+ years of progressive experience in a financial and analytical role within a large organization
-
5+ years of experience facilitating senior leadership (including VPs) decision making through data-driven business insights and concise presentations

Must possess superior understanding of IFRS with the ability to provide the interpretation and detailed application of standards and impacts on current accounting policies

Demonstrated experience engaging VPs, Directors, and Managers in one or more business areas to consult and inform their day-to-day operations

Proven ability to perform highly complex financial analysis assignments with limited guidance

Must demonstrate experience with translating complicated financial concepts into business practices, devise innovative ways of presenting business information to stakeholders – e.g., using Gantt Charts, Waterfall charts, and other visual tools

Must have advanced proficiency in Microsoft Suite of Office Products (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Experience working with Think Cell is considered an asset

Experience with financial systems such as Maximo, Powerplan and Workday Financials is considered an asset

Experience in a rate regulated industry with detailed knowledge of the Alberta regulatory framework is preferred

Salary: Analyst, Level D (Current CUPE 2023 rates)
$109,704.14 - $116,568.09 - $123,432.04 - $130,276.15 - $137,140.09

Location: This role will be part of our hybrid (home and office) work force with office workspace located at ENMAX Place (141 - 50th Avenue SE, Calgary, AB). You will work from home on Mondays and Fridays and in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
