Job Description

Our client, The Adams Lake Indian Band (ALIB), belongs to the Secwepemc Nation and is a member of the Shuswap Nation Tribal Council (SNTC), which consists of 10 Secwepemc Bands. Over the past decades, ALIB has grown tremendously, which has driven the charge for significant changes within the community. They have developed new tools to deliver services in a changing world, which has resulted in more and varied opportunities to create and advance band programs, develop economic initiatives and to provide meaningful employment to more families. The various departments work as a collective team; dedicated to providing successful programs while carrying out their roles and responsibilities. They strive to create an atmosphere of trust and respect that honors the Secwepemc culture.


Reporting to the CFO, the HR Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects and evaluating the overall Human Resources strategy for ALIB, including HR operations, talent acquisition, employee relations, compensation and benefits, performance management, training and development, and HR strategy development. You will be the leader in shaping and implementing HR initiatives that align with the organizational goals and promote a positive an inclusive work culture. The ideal candidate should have extensive knowledge of HR best practices exceptional leadership abilities, and a strategic mindset.



Additional responsibilities will include:


HR Strategy and Planning


  • Develop and execute HR strategies that align with the companys overall business objectives;
  • Collaborate with the CEO & CFO to identify HR priorities and initiatives that support organizational growth;
  • Responsible for setting and managing the HR budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources;
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices to ensure HR policies and practices are current and effective.



Talent Acquisition and Management


  • Oversee the full recruitment life cycle
  • Develop strategies to attract and retain top talent, ensuring a diverse and inclusive workforce;
  • Develop and implement performance management programs



Employee Relations and Engagement


  • Foster a positive work environment by promoting open communication, collaboration, and a culture of respect and inclusivity;
  • Handle employee relations matters, ensuring fair and consistent resolution of issues and grievances;
  • Develop and implement employee engagement initiatives such as recognition programs, employee surveys and team building activities;
  • Respond to questions or concerns from Chief & Council, as well as all employees of ALIB


Compensation & Benefits

  • Oversee the design, implementation and administration of compensation and benefit programs;
  • Conduct regular market research to ensure the competitiveness of our compensation and benefit offerings.


Compliance & Policy Development

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant employment laws, regulations, and industry standards;
  • Represent the organization in HR legal matters including review existing and forthcoming legislation to determine HR impact on the organization;
  • Develop and update HR policies and procedures to reflect, best practices and legal requirements;
  • Acting as the primary liaison for WorkSafe BC, disability/leave of absence management, and return-to-work programs where required.


Training and Development
  • Identify and implement training and development needs at all levels of the organization;
  • Support career development initiatives and succession planning;
  • Deliver training presentations, content and course materials;
  • Coach and guide managers with their teams re: people strategies.


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business with a specialization in Human Resources;
  • CPHR certification an asset;
  • 8-10 years of progressive HR experience with at least 5 years in a leadership role;
  • Experience in a First Nations environment, including experience with funding agencies, culture and traditions would be considered an asset;
  • Strong knowledge of HR principles, practices, and employment laws;
  • Proven experience in strategic HR planning and execution;
  • Experience with ADP HRIS – Workforce Now, considered an asset;
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationship at all levels of the organisation;
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with integrity;
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Current and acceptable Criminal Record Check (original).
