Schedule: Varied shifts - Evenings/Overnights/Weekends

The Elizabeth Fry Society of Greater Vancouver (EFry) is a charitable organization that supports women, girls, and children at risk, involved in or affected by the justice system. Our programs work to break the cycle of poverty, addiction, mental illness, homelessness, and crime.

We are recruiting for a casual, on-call Support Worker for Columbia Place. Located in New Westminster, Columbia Place provides up to 17 women on conditional release from the Fraser Valley Institution for Women and other correctional settings with a supportive communal housing program in which they can demonstrate their ability to self-manage and complete the terms of their order from the Parole Board of Canada. Operating on an awake basis around the clock, staff support women to complete the community plan they presented to the Parole Board, and report, as legally required, on the women’s whereabouts to enable the governing legislative requirements to be met.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide one-on-one programming, monitoring and case management support to women on conditional release within a halfway house setting.
  • Provide for the safety and well-being of residents and the community.
  • Record all activities and interactions with participants as part of the ongoing case management.
  • Monitor the day-to-day operations of residence to ensure quality control for all equipment and maintain maximum cleaning effectiveness.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma in Social Services/Criminology or other relevant disciplines with an accredited educational institution.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience with criminalized women in a residential environment.
  • Proven knowledge related to incarceration and parole.
  • Working knowledge of legislation and policies related to Social Assistance & Mental Health Act.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Valid driver’s license (Class 5) with satisfactory driving record an asset.

MANDATORY JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum on-call availability of 7 shifts per week including evenings, overnights & weekends.
  • Food Safe Level 1.
  • Standard First Aid with CPR-C.
  • Evidence of COVID-19 vaccination status.
  • Evidence of a Tuberculosis Test and compliance with the TB Control Program.
  • Doctor’s Note of fitness required.
  • Enhanced Security Screening & satisfactory Criminal Record Review (Vulnerable Sector Search).
  • This position requires union membership.
