Program Overview – Language Programs, Community Programs


Newcomer Programs & Services has served newcomers and refugees in Toronto for over four decades. Its mandate is to help newcomers and refugees settle, adjust, and integrate into society. Funded by the three levels of government, WoodGreen Newcomer Programs & Services operates English language training programs, settlement services, employment support programs, mentorship, networking activities, and social and recreational activities. Newcomer Programs & Services is committed to providing friendly and professional services to all newcomers to help them connect with Canadian society and their new way of life.


What You Will Do


  • Provide professional, respectful, and welcoming reception services including receiving clients and community service providers in person, by telephone, email, or online.
  • Provide a brief overview of programs and services offered.
  • Answer questions from clients in relation to reception and services and connect them to appropriate programs and services as requested.
  • Perform clerical tasks, e.g., data entry including updating clients’ information, compiling statistics, filing, faxing, photocopying, telephoning, emailing, distributing information/forms to clients, preparing forms/documents, appointment/meeting/room booking, and upkeep of common area, etc.
  • Keep accurate and confidential records, including client intake forms and related documents.
  • Support outreach activities including flyers preparation and distribution.
  • Collaborate and cooperate with other staff within the unit to ensure clients’ success and integration in programming.
  • Responsible for implementing all activities as per the annual work-plan developed together with the manager within the stipulated timeframe.
  • Maintain all aspects of confidentiality relating to clients, volunteers, staff, community members and community partners.
  • Ensure the anti-racism objectives and community development principles of the organization are respected and followed.
  • Participate in regular staff and unit meetings.
  • Perform other related duties as required from time to time.

What You Bring to the Team


  • Secondary School graduate.
  • Office administration training considered an asset.
  • 2+ years of reception/clerical/customer service/office administration experience.
  • Second language(s) a strong asset.
