Job Description

We currently have a Regular Full-Time opportunity for a Manager, Ambulatory Patient Appointments in the Odette Cancer Centre located at our Bayview Campus.

Hours of Work:

Weekdays: Days, 8hrs; As per schedule


Summary of Duties

Reporting to the Director of Operations: Oncology, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Supervise, manage, and delegate work of staff within the New Patient Bookings, Unit Coordinators, and Main Receptionist services.
  • Work with Program Heads and Physicians to understand, predict and respond to needs for program services. Manage and expedite resolution of any employee relation problems between Physicians and staff.
  • Responsible for the recruitment and retention processes of staff.
  • Manage and oversee retention initiatives of current staff through continuous formal and informal evaluation.
  • Manage staff scheduling and ensure appropriate resources for functions.
  • Implement policies, practices, and procedures consistent with the goals and objectives of the program and Centre. Develop and implement work standards and performance targets. Direct the collection, analysis and interpretation of information in order to monitor and evaluate performance objectives.
  • Oversee staff training and skill development as necessary to ensure maximum program effectiveness and in accordance with SHSC policies and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain accurate staff records, such as attendance, performance evaluation (both formal and informal evaluation), sick leave, vacation and management of employee and labour relation issues.
  • Responsible for budget and oversees the process and facilitation of 66 employees are responsible for the booking of all appointments for outpatient cancer patients through their cycle of treatment.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • 4 year Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of the clerical operation of a comprehensive cancer program, including patient flow/interactions required.
  • 7 years of healthcare experience in an academic setting or equivalent required.
  • Superior organizational and management skills.
  • Experience working and managing and/or supervising in a unionized environment strongly preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates strong analytical, problem-solving and leadership skills.
  • Requires tact and discretion in dealing with and handling confidential matters.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with a variety of computer software packages, such as Microsoft Office suite.
