Carmangay School - Principal

The Palliser School Division invites highly motivated educators, who have demonstrated exceptional leadership to apply for the position of Principal at Carmangay School. The position will begin on August 24, 2023, or on a mutually agreed date. The successful candidate will possess a clear vision for student learning, a deep understanding of effective research-based pedagogy, a commitment to collaborative leadership, a solid understanding of school improvement processes, and sensitivity to community needs.

Carmangay Schoolis an alternative public school for Low-German speaking Mennonite families. Located in the small community of Carmangay, Alberta, Carmangay School provides classes to students Grade 7 – Grade 12.

Carmangay School, within the jurisdiction of The Palliser School Division, has approximately 80 students. All of our grade 7-9 students receive full time direct instruction, while our high school students will experience a flexible and fluid program between school and work. Carmangay School gives its students opportunities to embrace their Faith and culture, as well as skills they will need for life after high school.

Job Requirements

● Master’s Degree in Education or a related field (or in the process of obtaining one)

● Valid Alberta Leadership Quality Standard (LQS) Certification, or eligibility for same

● Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate

● Exemplary teaching and administrative experience

● Strong leadership and management skills

● Commitment to establishing positive working relationships with staff, parents, and community partners

● Commitment to establishing partnerships and is knowledgeable about indigenous cultures, traditions and values

● Experience in multi-grade level classrooms

● Willingness to explore innovative approaches to learning

● Student-focused leader, dedicated to excellence in student learning in an inclusive environment

● Ability to provide effective leadership which fosters innovation, collaboration, respect and trust

● Ability to work in partnership with parents and other stakeholders to support student growth and development

● Strong interpersonal skills

Conditions of Employment

In order to maintain a safe and secure working environment, applicants new to The Palliser School Division must provide:

● Criminal Record Check, including vulnerable sector check from Local Police Service or RCMP detachment

● Social Insurance Number (SIN) card or document issued by Service Canada. SIN card/document must be in current legal name. Name on SIN card/document must match your Government Issued ID and Criminal Record Check

● Government issued ID - valid driver's license, valid passport or nexus card
