About the Role:


Reporting to the Category Manager, the Category Buyer is accountable for providing intermediate level category management work and delivering category management principles and supply chain solutions to overhead and operational spend categories, commodities, and services, which improve performance and reduce cost and business risk. While focusing on the needs of internal Operational clients, the incumbent delivers a better value supply chain by embedding category strategies into the projects through a holistic company spend perspective, ensuring Supply Chain is delivered through a combination of Operational Procurement and category management, as stated in the business strategy. The incumbent manages the supply agreements and the goods and services provided therein to business units, providing financial savings and performance improvements through a more strategic approach to supply chain management and a more integrated approach with internal clients and external suppliers.


As a Category Buyer at Graham, you will:


  • Support the Category Manager in delivering their objectives.
  • Negotiate, implement, and sustain corporate overhead and operational supply agreements.
  • Leverage supply opportunities to deliver the supply agreements which support business unit needs.
  • Facilitate ongoing supplier business and strategic alignment, including management of supplier relationships and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure that the supply chain is safe, sustainable, and appropriately managed.
  • Deliver targeted savings and performance improvement benefits and assume accountability for the cost reduction and performance of the supply chain in assigned categories.
  • Produce a Category Management strategy which fulfills internal client needs.
  • Prepare and support the placement of subcontract and material supply orders.
  • Draft and issue Master Service Agreements with key suppliers.
  • Achieve targets set by the Senior Category Manager / Category Manager.
  • Monitor Supply Chain delivery against procurement programs.
  • Adhere to the business Supply Chain strategies, processes, and procedures.
  • Work closely with category management colleagues and work with cross-functional teams to implement agreements across the business.
  • Prepare and present timely and accurate reports.
  • Identify ways to reduce cost and improve service.
  • Conduct regular supply chain reporting, supplier reviews, forecasting, and budgeting savings and rebates.
  • Support category management financial performance strategy and targets.
  • Work closely with stakeholders and category managers to understand internal client requirements and implement the most appropriate supply chain and category solutions.
  • Promote Graham Supply Chain capability to internal clients, suppliers, and stakeholders.
  • Focus on effective communication and relationship building with internal clients and external suppliers.
  • Act as the liaison between Operational clients and key suppliers.
  • Monitor and manage supplier performance.

Qualifications & Experience:


  • Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or technical field.
  • Pursuit of SCMA / CIPS qualification is an asset.
  • Min 5 years of progressive experience in supply chain with exposure to Strategic Sourcing or Category Management.
  • Ability to address internal client concerns in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge of supplier performance improvement tools and techniques.
  • Knowledge of supply analysis.
  • Proficiency in procurement processes.
  • Strong relationship management skills.
  • Relevant product and subcontract market knowledge.
  • Knowledge of tender and contract procurement practices and processes.
  • Experience in drafting contracts.
  • Strong analytical skills and high competency in supplier selection and evaluation.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to operate under pressure and to meet tight and demanding deadlines.
  • Proficiency using a computer and Microsoft Office.
  • Most of the work is completed at the corporate office, however occasional travel may required.
