Senior Technical BA with our client
for a
permanent opportunity.
Role Description:
As a member of the IT Portfolio Team, this Senior Business Analyst reports to the Associate Director, Portfolio Management and takes operational direction from other senior members of the Office of the CIO, as required. The role works collaboratively with project sponsors, IT management and IT Portfolio Team leaders to set project objectives and priorities and communicates project status to project stakeholders. The role provides business analysis expertise to other members of the team and leads project participants from the client’s IT and internal faculties and units
Responsibilities:
- Develops business cases for IT projects endorsed by the IT Capital Planning Committee. The development of a business case for a significant IT project is a project in itself and requires strong, experienced leadership to resolve the uncertainties and ambiguities that are common at this early stage of project planning. Content that must be determined and documented includes:
- Strategic context (business environment and organization, business needs, drivers for change, desired outcomes and benefits, risks, strategic fit, scope, assumptions, constraints)
- Stakeholder interests and impacts
- Business requirements
- System options analysis (options, alignment with strategy and outcomes, architecture, data strategy, costs and benefits, resourcing and timelines, risks, benchmarks, sustainment
- The recommended course of action (preferred option, rationale, schedule and governance, funding
- Coordinates the efforts of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to develop assumptions, requirements, and estimates related to solution architecture, system integration, data governance, privacy, cybersecurity, and application sustainment.
- Aligns business case content with the organization and its IT strategic goals, Enterprise Architecture strategy, Data Governance standards, and roadmaps for related projects. Consults with the client’s IT leaders to resolve alignment issues if required.
- Works with other senior members to improve and standardize business case development practices, processes, standards and templates, with a particular focus on methodologies for the capture of strategic context and functional requirements.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 8 years of related experience including at least two years of managerial experience
- Demonstrated knowledge and proven experience in producing business requirements documents, use cases, user scenarios, user stories and business process models.
- Significant experience in the preparation of business cases for large and/or complex IT projects.
- In-depth knowledge of applications and the business requirements supporting them
- Solid knowledge of IT application development methodologies and implementation best practices, "rules of thumb", and benchmarks.
- Working knowledge of project management, quality assurance, change management disciplines and best practices; and development methodologies.
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the following:
- Business process re-engineering
- Data analysis and data modeling (conceptual, logical)
- Understanding of key trends and players in the IT industry
Nice to have:
- Experience in a higher education environment is an asset.
